A huge surge in interest in cover crops has been seen in UK agriculture in recent years and Government financial support is likely to move even more towards encouraging farmers to adopt their use.
A cover crop or green manure is a non-cash crop grown primarily for the purpose of ‘protecting or improving’ between periods of regular crop production. At the end of the growth period these crops may be grazed or incorporated into the soil depending on the type of cover crop chosen.
We provide a range of standard mix cover crops many of which are also eligible for use in environmental schemes. As you will also see we supply a wide range of straights which can be used on their own or combined resulting in a cover crop uniquely designed to meet your requirements.
The potential benefits are:
- Reduction of soil erosion
- Preventing nutrient loss due to leaching and runoff
- Weed reduction
- Improving soil structure
- Increased Organic matter
- Improved yields
